What's New for the 2018 Ford Transit?

In 2018, the Ford Transit rolls off the production line with some fresh new features, including more standard amenities and tech functions than ever before. New for the Ford Transit, which is a full-size cargo van, are power-operated door locks, a glove box that locks, an LED lamp in the cargo area for visibility, a more accessible rearview camera, and folding side mirrors. The Transit Connect, which is the passenger version of the Transit family, has no notable structural or aesthetic changes from the previous model year. Transit & Transit Connect Highlights

There are three trim levels in the Ford Transit Cargo Van. The base model is the 150, the mid-level van is the 250, and the highest-level option is the 350. All three trim levels have different gross vehicle weight ratings. They are all available with either standard platforms or with longer wheelbases. Customers can also choose between a low-roof, standard-size roof, and high roof with the 2018 van. The basic amenities on all trims are 16-inch wheels, split-folding rear seats, a full suite of power-operated features, a tilt-telescoping steering wheel, and air conditioning for the front row. This model also has a rearview camera with a trailer hitch assist. The audio system contains four speakers and an auxiliary jack. A suite of amenities is available to further customize each version. Rear parking sensors, sliding cargo doors, alternate axle ratios, and power-folding mirrors, which can be ordered in a regular or long length, are some possible add-ons. The Transit Connect is created in both a commercial cargo van and a passenger-friendly wagon body style. The Transit Connect is made in three trim levels, which are the XL, XLT, and the Titanium, which is a wagon-only version. The XL can seat seven passengers, while the XLT and the Titanium can seat between five and seven passengers. Basic amenities on the XL Cargo Van include 16-inch wheels, air conditioning, vinyl upholstery, power-operated front windows, and a two-speaker sound system. The XLT Cargo Van adds carpet flooring, a display screen, cruise control, fog lights, and heated mirrors. The XLT Wagon has the same equipment as the cargo van, along with daytime running lights, an auto-dimming mirror, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. The Titanium has chrome exterior accents, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, leather seats, and a dual-zone climate control.

Engine & Transmission

There are several choices of engines available with the Transit family. All trim levels of the Transit Connect are powered by the same engine, which is a 2.5L, four-cylinder engine that produces a maximum of 169HP and 171 LB-FT of torque. The Transit Connect has front-wheel drive, and it has a six-speed automatic transmission. The Transit vans can be ordered with either a base 3.7L, six-cylinder engine that produces 275HP and 260 LB-FT of torque, a turbo-charged 3.2L five-cylinder diesel engine that generates 185HP and 350 LB-FT of torque, or a powerful 3.5L, six-cylinder engine that generates up to 310HP and 400 LB-FT of torque. Regardless of engine type, all trim levels come with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Safety Ensured

From passenger airbags to backup cameras, the Transit vans and wagons are designed to keep passengers safe if there is an accident. Cruise control, rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and a lane departure warning sensor are some safety highlights of the Transit. Standard and available safety features in the Transit Connect include rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, a rearview camera, and front and back parking sensors. The commercial van has six passenger airbags for all occupants. The five-seat passenger vehicles add to that number two side curtain airbags, and the seven-seat vehicles have three side curtain airbags.
