What's New for the 2018 Ford C-MAX?

When Ford eliminated the C-Max Energi plug-in model from its repertoire in 2018, they left the tall C-Max Hybrid Wagon and the compact Ford Fusion as the only hybrid automobile models in the Ford lineup of vehicles. In the 2018 Ford C-Max, Ford engineers did not see the need to improve beyond the excellence built into the 2017 model.

2018 Ford C-MAX Interior

New Features and Highlights

The 2018 Ford C-MAX comes in two trims-the C-MAX SE Hybrid Wagon and the C-Max Titanium Hybrid Wagon. The base model SE includes several enviable stock features. Just as in the 2017 model, the 2018 C-MAX SE lithium-ion battery charges through a conveniently located 110-volt outlet. On the exterior, Ford placed several safety features not found in other hybrids. 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels help to absorb the bumps on the road. Ford installed daytime running lights as an added safety measure. The interior provides a spacious feel with extra-large windows that let in more light. Ford included a SYNC system with convenient ESB and other auxiliary ports. The Ford engineers included an active grille shutter system to protect the interior environment and a dual-zone comfort system in the front seat area. The driver enjoys the feel of leather wrapping on the steering wheel and a 10-way power adjustable seat.

When you purchase a Ford C-MAX Titanium Hybrid Wagon, you enjoy the base features found in the C-Max SE trim along with several other amenities. On the exterior of the Titanium trim, Ford engineers added painted pockets to the 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels for a distinct look. They added heated exterior mirrors and fog lights for added safety in areas where fog is prevalent. Rear-parking sensors help you to park in crowded areas, and rain-sensing windshield wipers provide that hands-free feel for the driver. The chrome grille adds a bit of elegance to the C-Max Titanium trim exterior. Inside, the Titanium trim has a more elegant look with leather-trimmed seats. Both front seats are heated and have 10-way power adjustment capability. Drivers enjoy a push-button ignition with remote start capability. A nine-speaker Sony system adds vibes through HD radio and a SYNC-3 communication system with an 8-inch touchscreen. The rearview mirror has an auto-dim feature.

Engine and Fuel

2018 Ford C-MAXBoth trims use the same engine complements of an electric engine and a gas engine. Ford engineers accomplished a feat with these engines complementing one-another to generate 188-horsepower. The electric engine runs off a lithium-ion battery that delivers 35kw of power that can accelerate the C-Max to 60-mph in 8.1 seconds and as high as 85-mph without engaging the gas engine. The gasoline engine is an Atkinson 2.0-Liter motor with 4-cylinders. The gas engine generates 144-horsepower at 6200 rpm and sips gas. The combination of using the electric and the gasoline engine in tandem yields a fuel economy level of 42/38/40 in a city/highway/combined configuration which, when considering the 13.2-gallon fuel tank, gives up to 540 miles of driving before necessitating a fuel up.

Safety Systems

2018 Ford C-MAX RearBoth Ford C-MAX Hybrid Wagon trims are rated "good" in Moderate Overlap Front Test Results, Side Impact Test Results, and Roof Strength Test Results provided by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. These crash tests are standard tests for the auto industry in the U.S. The test results take into consideration the safety features included in the C-Max trims. Safety Locks are included for children. Airbags include a driver airbag, a passenger airbag, front head airbags, rear head airbags, and side impact airbags.
